Vibieffe at Melaaura
Vibieffe has been making upholstered furniture in Italy since 1959, when Italo Buccella founded the company in Meda, the Brianza town north of Milan that has been the centre of Italian furniture production for a century. The company still builds there, and still builds to order.
The range is organised around six collections — Contemporary, Evolution, Gold, Timeless, Night&Day and Quiet Luxury — with most of the catalogue designed by Gianluigi Landoni, alongside work from AB Studio, Altrodesign, Tomu Katayanagi and John Hope. Night&Day is given over entirely to sofa beds and beds, an area Vibieffe has specialised in for decades and where the mechanisms are engineered rather than bought in.
What runs through the whole range is modularity. Most Vibieffe seating is a system rather than a fixed size: modules, end elements, chaise longues, ottomans and storage pieces that are specified against a room instead of chosen from a shortlist. Upholstery, frame finish, foot and configuration are all decided per order.
