5800 Tube has a headboard in saddle leather, with roll cushions mounted across it that can be adjusted along its height. The rolls are the backrest — move them and the bed changes from upright for reading to low for sleeping.

Saddle leather is a firm, structural hide rather than a soft upholstery leather; it holds the flat plane of the headboard and takes on a patina with use rather than creasing.
