9980 Iris is a tall bookcase whose uprights and shelves slot into one another rather than meeting at a fixed grid. Because the joints interlock instead of aligning, the shelf pattern can be set freely — no two Iris units need be divided the same way.

It is built in MDF, which is the right material for this construction: stable across long spans and dimensionally consistent enough to take repeated interlocking cuts without moving.
