Oyster Armchair

About Oyster Armchair

Design

The Oyster armchair by Capital has a calm, contemporary presence. Its lines curve gently, without sharp edges or fuss. Seen from the side, the profile feels almost sculpted, yet the overall look stays discreet. At about 45.3 inches wide, 33.1 inches high and 40.9 inches deep, it has a generous footprint that still reads as refined rather than bulky. Designed by Luca Scacchetti in 2014, it sits comfortably in a modern setting but does not chase trends.

Materials & Build

Oyster is offered with finishes in metal, fabric, and leather, allowing different readings of the same shape. In its Italian leather version, the surface has a supple touch that gives the chair much of its quiet character. Stitching and junctions are carefully controlled, so the curves remain clean and continuous.

The structure is engineered to support the broad seat and back without visual heaviness. Nothing feels decorative for its own sake; every element is there to hold the form and keep the silhouette sleek.

Comfort

This is clearly a lounge chair, not just an accent piece. The seat height of around 17.7 inches encourages a relaxed posture, while the armrests, at about 26.4 inches, give easy support without enclosing the sitter. The soft Italian leather upholstery adds to the sense of being lightly wrapped rather than tightly held.

It is the combination of width, depth, and that enveloping backrest that makes Oyster inviting. Once seated, the chair feels like it was drawn to follow the body, not the other way around.

Placement & Lifestyle

Oyster works well as a single, sculptural armchair or as a pair framing a low table. Its proportions suit both living rooms and hotel lounges, where a piece needs to look composed from every angle. And because the form is restrained, it sits comfortably next to bold art or strong architectural elements without competing.

In leather, it leans more formal; in fabric, it can read softer and more residential. Either way, it brings a consistent, composed note to the room.

Longevity

Capital positions Oyster as a long-term piece, not a seasonal gesture. The use of quality Italian leather and carefully finished seams helps the chair age with character rather than simply wear. At roughly 99 pounds, it has a reassuring solidity that matches its visual poise.

Even the volume it occupies, about 42.4 cubic feet, feels considered rather than excessive. It is a chair intended to stay in place, to be used every day, and to remain relevant well beyond its 2014 debut.
