Majlis: Floor-Level Luxury for Outdoor Living
The Majlis collection by Melaaura reimagines the oldest form of hospitality for the modern terrace. In the Arab world, the majlis — literally “a place of sitting” — is the room where guests are received and conversation unfolds at floor level. Designer Jamela Alawneh translates that intimacy into a landscape of low platforms: seat cushions hover on recessed solid teak plinths just 38 cm off the ground, backs are weighted bolsters that move wherever the gathering flows, and nothing is fixed in place.
A Modular Landscape, Not a Sofa Set
Square platforms, curved Wave modules, sun lounges and cube poufs share one section height, so they combine freely — an island for two, a serpentine run around a pool, or a full open-air majlis. The adjustable Sunbed adds a slatted teak recliner in single and double widths, softened by the same tailored bouclé cushions and strapped bolster headrests.
Teak and Hand-Glazed Lava Stone
Every base and frame is cut from solid Grade A teak that weathers to a silver patina outdoors. The collection’s tables — low coffee tables and round pedestal side tables — carry tops of volcanic lava stone, hand-glazed and kiln-fired in glossy and leather-touch finishes: Boa, Celeste, Amethyst, Mocca and Forest; Monarch, Ash, Seafoam, Lavanda, Terra and Geko; alongside quiet Dune and Pearl stone. The result is UV-stable, frost-proof and made to live outside year-round.
