About Bon Ton Armchair
Design
The Bon Ton armchair from Capital is built around a finely contoured shell that holds the seat like a frame. The line is clean, but not cold. The backrest opens to reveal a distinctive metal finishing element, so the chair feels considered from every angle, front or back. There is a clear balance between a firm outer structure and a softer inner volume.
Designed by Boatto Martino Studio for the 2018 armchairs collection, it has a sinuous, slightly enveloping profile. Nothing is exaggerated. The curves are measured, and the proportions stay compact, so it reads as inviting without becoming bulky.
Materials & Build
Under the upholstery, a pre-cover in memory foam gives the shell its padded depth. Over this, the final cover can be chosen in fabric or leather, with finishes that coordinate across metals, leather, and fabrics. The look can shift from more relaxed to more formal simply through material choice.
The armchair measures about 28.7 inches wide, 33.9 inches high, and 27.2 inches deep, with a seat height of roughly 17.7 inches. At around 66.1 pounds, it has a reassuring presence without feeling heavy to handle. A metal finishing base with rounded corners grounds the piece and subtly softens the geometry.
Comfort
Comfort starts with the memory foam pre-cover, which supports the body while keeping the silhouette clean. The seat feels generous relative to the footprint, and the soft volume contrasts nicely with the firmer shell. It is not an oversized lounge chair, but it does invite longer sitting.
The seat height makes it easy to stand up again, which matters in everyday use. And the enveloping shape around the back gives a sense of being held, not boxed in.
Placement & Lifestyle
With a volume of about 28.3 cubic feet, the Bon Ton fits easily into living rooms, lounges, or bedroom corners where space still matters. It works well as a single accent piece or in pairs facing a sofa. The open metal detail on the back means it does not have to sit against a wall; it can stand comfortably in the middle of a room.
In more formal settings, a leather version emphasizes the sculpted shell. In relaxed spaces, fabric softens the line and makes the Capital design feel casual but still precise.
Longevity
Materials have been chosen with long-term use in mind: metal for the base, robust fabrics or leather for the final cover, and memory foam that helps the seat keep its shape. The rigid outer shell adds structure, so the chair keeps its profile over time instead of collapsing.
Since its 2018 debut, the design has stayed relevant because it avoids excess. It is a clear, thoughtful armchair that can move with a home or project and still look appropriate years later.
