About Don Gerrit
Design
Don Gerrit reads as a quiet statement: a low table made of stacked glass, built up in clean, graphic layers. The silhouette is simple, but the volume feels deliberate. And because the base is formed from multiple slabs, it has a sense of depth that changes as light moves around it.
Designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, the piece keeps decoration to a minimum. The focus stays on proportion, clarity, and the way glass can look both sharp and soft at once. It is the kind of design that holds attention without asking for it.
Materials & build
The base is obtained by gluing together several slabs of tempered glass, creating a solid block effect with crisp edges. Two glass directions are offered: a version entirely in smoked glass, and a transparent extralight version that includes an insert of transparent colored glass in blue, yellow, or red. That insert is restrained, not playful. It reads like a controlled accent inside a clear structure.
Base and top are assembled by means of a polished steel plate, bringing a precise, reflective detail against the glass. The configuration provided measures approximately 18.9 inches in diameter and 21.3 inches in height, a compact footprint with a slightly elevated presence. Don Gerrit is not available custom made, so the choice stays within the offered finishes.
Use & everyday comfort
For a side table, comfort is really about ease. Don Gerrit is straightforward to live with: an open surface for a drink, a book, a phone, the things that land within reach. The round top keeps it friendly around seating, and the clear or smoked glass makes it visually light even when the build is substantial.
But it is not a background piece. The layered base draws the eye, especially when the colored insert catches daylight. It works best when allowed a little space, so the material can do what it does.
Placement & lifestyle
This is an easy match for modern interiors that value restraint and strong materials. It sits naturally beside a sofa or lounge chair, and it also works as a small pedestal-like table in an entry or bedroom. In transparent extralight, it keeps a room open. In smoked glass, it adds contrast and a darker note without feeling heavy.
Longevity
Tempered glass and a polished steel connection point make the construction feel resilient and considered. There is no fussy mechanism, no trend-driven detailing. With simple care and a thoughtful placement, the Don Gerrit side table from glasitalia is built to stay relevant as the room evolves.
