About Diapositive
Design
Diapositive is a glass-forward collection by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec that keeps the line clean and the silhouette crisp. The forms are simple on purpose, letting proportion and transparency do the work. Edges read sharp, but the overall presence stays light, almost architectural.
The bench version is strictly monochromatic. It comes in transparent glass finishes that shift the mood without changing the design: extralight, clear grey, dark grey, lilac, or sienna red. And because the color lives in the glass itself, the look stays consistent from every angle.
Materials & build
The structure is made from transparent extralight glass that’s laminated and thermo-welded, so it feels precise rather than delicate. At the outer edges of the supporting sides, solid wood elements add warmth and a clear boundary to the glass. The wood is offered in natural ash or dark brown oak, used as an accent, not as decoration.
Diapositive is produced as specified, not custom made. That constraint feels intentional here; the details are tuned to the geometry, and the piece works best when it stays true to that original profile.
Comfort
The bench is supplied with a felt cushion, 0.47 inches thick, in black or mélange grey. It’s a straightforward addition, but it changes the experience. The cushion takes the edge off the glass seat and keeps the look quiet, almost graphic.
It’s not an overstuffed sit. But it is comfortable in the way a well-made bench should be: supportive, stable, and easy to live with.
Placement & lifestyle
Because the glass is transparent, Diapositive can sit in a room without blocking it. It works in an entry, at the foot of a bed, or along a wall where a heavier piece would feel too fixed. In open plans, it keeps sightlines intact and doesn’t compete with art or rugs.
Sizes vary across the range, and the proportions stay consistent. Key dimensions include 55.5 by 20.9 by 29.1 inches and 55.5 by 20.9 by 44.9 inches, along with 39.8 by 20.9 by 48.8 inches and 39.8 by 20.9 by 63.4 inches.
Longevity
In glass furniture, longevity comes from how it’s built, and this is where the laminated, thermo-welded construction matters. The solid wood at the edges adds resilience in the areas that tend to see hands, bags, and daily contact.
Diapositive from glasitalia is a considered choice for clients who want something refined but not showy. It holds up visually over time because there’s nothing extra to date, just good materials and a disciplined shape.
