About Constellation Ceiling Sconce
Design
The Constellation Cassiopeia Ceiling Sconce brings the city’s night sky indoors. Conceived by David Rockwell, it draws on New York’s celestial ceiling at Grand Central without leaning into nostalgia. The idea is simple and strong: a network of points connected by fine lines, like a star chart brought to life. It reads clean from a distance and reveals thoughtful detail up close. And when lit, it becomes a quiet focal point rather than a spectacle.
As part of Lasvit’s Constellation series, the Cassiopeia edition keeps a clear, architectural silhouette. The composition is modular and offered in bespoke configurations, with two shape variations to suit different plans. It looks designed, not decorated—confident, balanced, and unmistakably urban.
Materials & Build
Hand-crafted metal elements link each luminaire, giving the piece its graphic rhythm and structural integrity. The frame surface is finished in Champagne Stardust, a subtle, luminous tone that complements the Medium Copper glass. Nothing shouts. The finishes work together to create warmth without glare and precision without coldness.
Dimensions are straightforward: approximately 11.4 inches in height, 90.6 inches in length, and 39.8 inches in width. Weight is about 30.9 pounds. Each component is made by hand, so minor variations naturally occur. Handmade glass may show small bubbles or slight shade differences—signs of a real process, not a flaw.
Light & Comfort
The Cassiopeia Ceiling Sconce is about atmosphere. Points of light are spaced to echo a constellation, easing the eye across the room rather than pooling brightness in one place. It feels calm, almost weightless, yet it clearly defines the area beneath. By day, it reads as a sculpted installation. By night, it becomes an understated guide for the room’s mood.
The effect is uplifting without being theatrical, which is exactly the balance many spaces need. Not too bright. Not too dim. Just a steady, confident presence overhead.
Placement & Lifestyle
This piece works where sightlines matter—over a long dining table, above a seating zone, or anchoring a lobby. Its length lends itself to axial spaces and gallery-like rooms, but it’s adaptable. In residential settings, it brings a curated sense of scale to open-plan interiors. In hospitality or workplace environments, it delivers identity and orientation without visual noise.
Lasvit’s modular approach helps the Cassiopeia find its place rather than force it. It can read minimalist against pale walls or warm against darker finishes. Either way, it belongs.
Longevity
Materials were chosen for endurance as much as look. The Champagne Stardust frame resists everyday wear, while the hand-formed glass ages with character. And because the composition is modular, future adjustments or bespoke variations remain possible without starting over.
This is lighting designed to stay relevant. The Constellation Cassiopeia Ceiling Sconce holds its presence through changing furniture, new palettes, and evolving use—quietly consistent, and distinctly Lasvit.
