About Shimmer specchi

Design

Shimmer Specchi is a mirror series by Glas Italia that leans into light, not decoration. The surface shifts as the room changes, with a shaded, degrading silvering that fades and deepens across the glass. And then there’s the iridescent, multichromatic finish: it reads differently in the morning than it does at night, and it never looks quite the same from one step to the next.

Designed by Patricia Urquiola, the collection stays clean in outline while the finish does the talking. It’s animated without being loud. But it still feels intentional, the kind of piece that earns its space even when the rest of the room is quiet.

Materials & build

Each mirror is made in extralight glass, chosen for clarity and a more precise read of the finish. The processing is refined and controlled, building up the degrading shaded silvering mix and then bringing it to life with that signature Shimmer iridescence. The result is not a flat reflection, but a layered one that reacts to angle and distance.

Availability is straightforward: the series is not offered custom made. Select versions are available for quick ship: SHS01, SHS02, SHS03, SHS04, and SHS05 (without light).

Comfort (the way it lives with you)

Shimmer doesn’t try to be a perfect mirror, and that’s the point. The reflection has depth, a slight sense of movement, and a soft tonal shift that can be flattering in real interiors. It’s easier on the eye than a hard, bright specular surface, especially in spaces with layered lighting.

And because it changes with the light source and vantage point, it keeps a room from feeling static. A quick pass becomes a moment, and then it’s just a mirror again.

Placement & lifestyle

There are multiple formats, making it easy to scale the effect to the space. Rectangular options include approximately 39.4 in × 31.5 in (SHS01) and 49.2 in × 39.4 in (SHS02), both with a depth of about 2.0 in. The taller rectangular version is about 39.4 in × 70.9 in (SHS03).

For a more graphic placement, the round mirrors come at about 23.6 in diameter (SHS04) or 31.5 in diameter (SHS05), each around 2.0 in deep. They work in entryways, bedrooms, and dining areas where light moves across the day. And they hold their own against stone, wood, lacquer, or matte paint.

Longevity

The appeal of Shimmer is not a trend detail. It’s the way the finish responds to real light, season after season, without asking for a new setting. The series stays relevant because it behaves like an architectural surface more than an accessory.

With its extralight glass and controlled silvering treatment, Shimmer Specchi is made to be lived with. It will keep giving different readings of the same room, long after the rest of the styling has changed.
