About Shibam 1
Design
Shibam 1 is a totem mirror with a built-in object holder shelf, designed by Ettore Sottsass. The form is clean and vertical, but it never feels plain. Two front-facing surfaces are finished in white mirror, giving a crisp, clear read. Turn it slightly and the side faces introduce a different mood with decorated mirror panels, traced with thin colored engravings.
The color choice stays intentional and limited. The engraved lines come in pink or light blue, just enough to soften the geometry without turning it into a statement for its own sake. The result is graphic, confident, and easy to live with.
Materials & Build
The construction is straightforward and considered. White mirror on the front creates a bright reflection, while the lateral decorated mirror adds depth and detail. Those slender engravings sit on the surface with precision, reading as a fine outline rather than a heavy pattern.
At the base, matt polished absolute black granite brings weight and contrast. It anchors the piece visually and physically, so the mirror feels stable and resolved. Glasitalia keeps the mix of finishes disciplined: reflective surfaces above, grounded stone below. Shibam 1 is not available custom made, and that fixed combination is part of its character.
Everyday Use
The shelf makes the mirror feel more practical than a pure wall piece, without pushing it into utility mode. It’s there for the small things that tend to float around an entry or bedroom: a phone, keys, a watch, a fragrance. And it helps keep the surrounding surfaces calmer.
At approximately 34.6 inches long, 12.6 inches wide, and 69.3 inches high, it reads tall and slim. The proportions suit a quick check before leaving and a longer look when getting ready, while still keeping the footprint tight.
Placement & Lifestyle
Shibam 1 works best where it can be seen from more than one angle. In an entry hall it acts like a quiet marker, offering a reflection and a landing spot in one place. In a bedroom or dressing area, it adds structure without feeling like built-in cabinetry.
The white mirror faces brighten darker corners, while the side engravings offer a subtle shift as people move past. Pink leans warmer and more playful. Light blue stays cooler and more architectural.
Longevity
The material choices support long-term use. Granite resists daily wear and helps the piece sit with confidence, and mirrored surfaces keep their impact year after year when treated with basic care. The engraved sides are restrained enough to stay relevant as rooms change.
For clients who like objects with a clear design point of view, Shibam 1 by Glasitalia holds its own without demanding constant attention. It simply keeps doing its job, and looking sharp while it does.
