Sherazade Folding

About Sherazade Folding

Design

Sherazade Folding is a glass door system designed by Piero Lissoni. It is made as a pair of doors hinged together, built to fold like a book. The panels slide and bend as the opening changes, then wrap in close to the wall. The result is clean and quiet, with the kind of detail that reads as intentional, not decorative.

The lines stay sharp because the structure stays minimal. And the door keeps its presence without asking for attention. It’s the sort of piece that feels architectural, but still easy to live with.

Materials & Build

The core is tempered glass set within an aluminum frame. The glass is held in the center of the frame by a seal, keeping the look precise and controlled. Glass options include monolithic tempered glass at about 0.24 inches thick, or laminated tempered glass at 3+3 mm (also about 0.24 inches overall). Nothing feels fussy, but the construction is clearly considered.

For projects that call for a warmer note, there is also a wooden-veneered aluminum version. Glasitalia keeps the palette broad, but the build stays consistent: a slim frame, a defined edge, and glass that reads as a single, confident surface.

Movement & Everyday Use

The folding action is the point, and it’s handled with restraint. The two panels hinge together, then slide and fold at the opening, so the door can bend away and sit close to the wall. That helps keep the passage feeling open. But it also keeps the visual line simple when the door is parked.

Assembling instructions are available for Sherazade Folding. It’s a practical detail, and it matters with pieces that rely on alignment and clean movement.

Finishes & Placement

The glass comes in a wide range of finishes, from double- or single-faced acid-etched glass to extralight glass with wide meshes or with fabrics. There are also flutes in acid-etched or transparent colored glass, glossy or opaque lacquered glass, reflecting versions in acid-etched or transparent glass, plus acid-etched or transparent patterned glass, colored transparent glass, and transparent extralight glass.

Not every finish is available for every size, so the price list is the right reference when specifying. And that range gives Sherazade Folding room to shift character, from soft and diffused to crisp and reflective, without changing the underlying design.

Safety & Longevity

Tempered glass brings resilience to daily use, and it’s certified to safety regulations ANSI Z97.1 and UNI ENI 2150 (with the exception of 533. Retinato). The aluminum frame keeps the perimeter stable, while the central seal supports the glass and maintains the tight, monolithic look.

Attention to details isn’t treated as a slogan here. It shows up in the way the door folds, the way it sits near the wall, and the way the materials keep their clarity over time.
