About Strata
Design
Strata is a writing desk that leans into clarity and precision. The silhouette is clean, but not cold, with curved glass legs that soften the geometry and give the piece a quiet sense of movement. The top reads as a single plane of glass, kept visually light by the way the legs meet it and by the crisp 45° glue joints. Designed by Yabu Pushelberg, it’s a desk that looks intentional from every angle, even when the room is busy.
The drawer is integrated so the surface stays calm. It opens with a touch latch (push-pull), so there’s no hardware breaking the line. And the drawer front is fully glass, matching the overall look rather than feeling like an add-on.
Materials & Build
Glasitalia makes Strata in 15 mm (0.59″) extra light glass, tempered for everyday use. The desk is completely covered in tempered glass and finished in lacquered glass, offered in opaque or glossy. The bottom of the drawer comes in the same glass finish as the desk, which keeps the interior as considered as the exterior.
The construction is confident and exacting, with 45° glued joins that maintain a sharp profile without looking heavy. This is a piece that relies on the discipline of glasswork rather than ornament.
Comfort in Use
The experience is straightforward and refined. The glass surface feels smooth and crisp under the hand, and the drawer action is simple: a light push to open, another to close. It’s the kind of mechanism that quickly becomes second nature, especially when the desk is used as a daily work spot.
There’s also a practical detail built into the top: a special milled casing designed to house cables. It helps keep the essentials close without letting cords take over the surface.
Placement & Lifestyle
In its STR01 configuration, Strata measures 49.21″ L x 18.90″ W x 30.31″ H. The proportions work well in an office, a bedroom workspace, or a dressing area where a lighter visual footprint matters. But it still reads as a real desk, not a delicate accent.
The milled casing can accept a double-faced mirror, allowing the desk to shift into a modern make-up desk when needed. It’s a smart, subtle change, and it keeps the piece multifunctional without asking it to look multifunctional.
Longevity
Tempered glass and lacquered finishes are chosen for resilience, and the all-glass construction is consistent across the top, legs, and drawer. Strata is not available custom made, so the specification stays tight and controlled, exactly as intended by the designer and by Glasitalia.
With normal care, the materials hold their look well over time, and the desk’s minimal lines mean it won’t feel dated by small shifts in style. It’s simply a strong, composed piece that can live in a space for years.
