About Scornice
Design
Scornice is a series of rectangular mirrors designed by Nanda Vigo. The idea is simple and graphic: a frame-like motif is built into the glass itself, not added on. Satin-finished decorations sit on the transparent area and catch the light differently as the reflections shift. And because those satin details repeat the mirror’s own reflections, the surface feels layered without looking busy.
The cut, chamfered edge is what makes the motif read clearly. It sharpens the outline, gives the “frame” a crisp boundary, and keeps the overall look clean. It’s decorative, but controlled. Nothing extra, just a precise play of line, sheen, and reflection.
Materials & build
This is a glass mirror, finished with satin decorations on the clear portion and a chamfered perimeter cut. The construction stays true to what it is: glass treated with care and accuracy so the details hold their definition from every angle.
The rectangular format includes a double fixture for horizontal and vertical fixing. That practical choice matters, because it allows the same piece to work across different walls and proportions without forcing a single orientation.
Everyday experience
Scornice isn’t just about seeing a reflection. The satin elements soften what would otherwise be a plain mirror plane, so the view feels less stark in bright daylight and less harsh under evening lighting. But it still reads as a mirror first. The decorations sit in the background and do their work quietly.
The proportions are generous, and the edges stay refined. It feels finished up close, not only from across the room. That matters for an object people approach every day.
Placement & lifestyle
Two configurations are offered. SC01 measures about 35.4 inches long, 2.4 inches deep, and 63.0 inches high. SC06 measures about 55.1 inches long, 2.4 inches deep, and 51.2 inches high. Both keep a slim profile, so the mirror reads like a plane of glass rather than a bulky object.
In an entryway, it adds structure without competing with furniture. In a bedroom or dressing area, it brings scale and a more considered surface than a standard mirror. Scornice by Glas Italia also works well in hallways, where the repeating reflections add interest without relying on color or pattern.
Longevity
Glass rewards good detailing, and this piece is all about that. The chamfered edge protects the visual crispness of the frame motif, and the satin decorations are integrated as part of the surface treatment rather than an applied accessory.
Scornice is not available custom made. What’s offered is specific, resolved, and meant to stay that way. With normal care, it will keep its clarity and its clean lines for years, which is exactly the point of a mirror like this from Glas Italia.
