About Menteur
Design
Menteur is Philippe Starck’s take on the mirror as an object, not just a surface. The outline stays clean and modern, but the perimeter does something unexpected. The edge curves all the way around, creating a subtle frame that catches the room and bends it back.
Depending on which side is silvered, the mirror reads as concave or convex. That shift changes the mood immediately. The border reflects in a slightly irregular way, with a distortion that feels spontaneous rather than engineered. But the center stays perfectly flat, so it remains a functional mirror, not a visual trick.
Materials & build
Each mirror is made from a single sheet of glass, offered in bronze or extra-clear. The shaping is the point here: the glass is processed with complex techniques to curve the entire perimeter, then manually silvered. The result is crisp where it needs to be, and more expressive around the edges.
For the concave version, the back can be finished in silver or in Orange Pantone 163C. It’s a small detail, but it matters when the mirror is used in open sightlines or mounted where the reverse can be glimpsed. Menteur is not available as a custom-made piece.
Reflection & everyday use
The central zone is intentionally calm. It gives a true reflection for getting ready, checking proportions, or simply bringing more light into a space. And then the perimeter takes over, catching fragments of the room and shifting them slightly as people move.
That contrast is what makes the mirror easy to live with. It feels playful at the edges, steady at the center. The effect changes throughout the day with natural light and movement, without becoming distracting.
Placement & lifestyle
Menteur by glasitalia comes in two formats: a tall rectangle at approximately 30.3" wide, 65.7" high, and 2.0" deep, and a round version at approximately 31.5" in diameter with a 2.0" depth. The rectangular shape can be hung either vertically or horizontally, which makes it flexible for tighter walls or wider compositions.
It sits well in an entry where a quick check matters, or in a living space where it can widen perspective. The round version reads softer and more graphic. The rectangular version feels architectural, especially when leaned into clean lines and spare furnishings.
Longevity
Because it’s a single sheet of glass with a carefully finished silvering, the piece is meant to hold its clarity over time. The flat center stays dependable, while the curved perimeter keeps its character even as the room changes around it.
Quick ship configurations are available, including options with a silver or Orange Pantone 163C back on the concave version. Menteur remains a distinctive mirror in the glasitalia collection, designed to age with a space rather than compete with it.
