Mandala

About Mandala

Design

Mandala is a framed mirror that plays with perception in a quiet, confident way. A reflective border runs around the main mirror and adds a subtle sense of depth, like a second plane catching light at the edges. The result is graphic but not loud. And it keeps the piece from feeling flat on the wall.

Designed by Ettore Sottsass, the proportions feel deliberate and slightly unexpected. It reads as a strong rectangle, but the reflective framing softens it. The look is architectural, yet still easy to live with.

Materials & build

The mirror is set into a poplar root wooden frame. That choice matters. Poplar root brings natural variation to the surface, so the frame has character without needing extra ornament. It’s a warm counterpoint to the crisp reflection of glass.

Its overall size is approximately 34.6 inches long, 2.4 inches deep, and 29.9 inches high. The depth gives the frame presence on the wall, not just a thin outline. Mandala is not available custom made, so the piece is offered in this fixed configuration.

Everyday comfort

A mirror should be easy to use, and this one is. The clear central reflection does what it needs to do, while the mirrored border adds atmosphere around it. But it doesn’t distract. It simply shifts the room’s light and angles in a gentle way.

That extra reflective edge can make a smaller space feel less tight, and it can also bring more balance to a busier wall. It’s a calm object to live with, even when the rest of the room changes around it.

Placement & lifestyle

Because of its strong frame and noticeable depth, Mandala works well as a focal piece over a console, in an entry, or above a low cabinet. It also suits a bedroom where a mirror needs to look intentional, not like an afterthought. The rectangular format keeps it versatile, whether the surrounding furniture is minimal or more expressive.

In a living space, it can be paired with art without competing. The poplar root frame adds warmth, while the glass keeps things sharp. Mentioned in passing, it feels like a true glasitalia piece: considered, clean, and slightly off the expected path.

Longevity

The materials here age in a familiar, reassuring way. Glass remains crisp with basic care, and the wooden frame holds its presence as the room evolves. And since the design leans on proportion and contrast rather than decorative trends, it stays relevant without trying too hard.

For anyone building a long-term interior, Mandala is the kind of mirror that continues to earn its place. It doesn’t ask for attention every day. It just improves the space, day after day.
