About Float

Design

Float is a series of glass chests of drawers designed by Patrick Norguet. The lines are clean and exact, with the clarity of glass doing most of the work. And because the opening system is pressure-based, the front stays uninterrupted. No pulls, no extra hardware, just a calm surface that looks precise from every angle.

Proportions vary across the collection, which makes the look feel consistent while the scale changes. The smallest format comes in around 17.9 inches square and 19.7 inches high, while the longest stretches to about 70.9 inches in length. Some versions sit lower and wide, others go vertical, reaching roughly 44.5 inches high.

Materials & Build

The structure relies on transparent extralight glass, glued at 45° and used at a substantial 0.47-inch thickness for the sides and back. It reads crisp, not delicate. The drawers are in wengé, then covered on the outside with tempered glass that’s glossy lacquered in different colors. The drawer bottoms follow the same finish as the exterior, so the look stays consistent even when a drawer is open.

glasitalia keeps the construction focused on what matters here: glass precision, tight joins, and a finish that reflects light in a controlled way. There is no custom sizing for this series, which keeps the design language and proportions exactly as intended.

Everyday Use

The pressure opening system is the key daily detail. It keeps the silhouette minimal, but it also makes access feel direct: press, open, and the surface returns to being uninterrupted. It’s a small moment, repeated often, and it suits the piece.

The drawer build balances warmth and sheen. Wengé gives the drawers substance, while the lacquered tempered glass on the outside keeps the visual lightness. It’s storage that doesn’t try to look like storage.

Placement & Lifestyle

Float works well where a room needs order without visual weight. A medium size, around 39.4 inches long and 31.1 inches high, can anchor a wall without feeling bulky. Longer versions—about 48.0 inches or 70.9 inches—start to read like a statement console, still quiet but clearly intentional.

Because the glass is glossy lacquered, it plays with surrounding light and finishes. It pairs naturally with stone, darker woods, and soft textiles. But it can also sharpen a more minimal space, especially when the color choice is kept restrained.

Longevity

Glass furniture asks for confidence in the build, and this series is engineered around that. Thick extralight panels, tempered glass cladding on the drawers, and precise glued corners all support long-term use. The materials are resilient, but they still reward care—clean, straightforward maintenance keeps the lacquered finish looking even and clear.

Float by glasitalia is designed to hold its place over time. Not by shouting, but by staying consistent: clear structure, refined surfaces, and storage that remains visually composed day after day.
