About Donald tavoli bassi
Design
Donald tavoli bassi is a clean, architectural set of coffee tables and display units by Philippe Starck. Each piece reads as a precise glass parallelepiped, designed to hold and highlight objects without visual noise. The proportions stay quiet, but the presence is strong. And because the form is so resolved, it works as a single statement or as a repeated element in a larger arrangement.
There are three sizes, each with a distinct footprint and height: approximately 13.0 in × 13.0 in × 19.7 in, 13.0 in × 26.0 in × 13.8 in, and 26.0 in × 26.0 in × 9.8 in. Kept separate, they feel like individual accents. Placed side by side, they build a more articulated composition with subtle shifts in scale.
Materials & Build
The structure is made in laminated glass, 3+3 mm thick, with edges bonded at a crisp 45°. The effect is sharp and graphic, but also controlled. The glass is offered in twelve transparent colored finishes, so the piece can remain almost invisible or add a measured tint to the room.
The top rests on a stainless steel base with a mirror bottom. A thin perimeter edge finishes the base, adding a polished line while helping protect the glass from everyday knocks. Glasitalia keeps the construction exact; it looks simple, but it feels deliberate in the details. Custom versions are not available, which keeps the collection consistent and tightly edited.
Everyday Use
These pieces are made for display as much as for use. The clear, colored glass preserves the focus on what sits inside or on top, whether that’s books, ceramics, or a few objects meant to be seen. But it never asks the room to revolve around it.
The reflective base adds a quiet layer of depth, especially when the table holds objects with shape or texture. It’s a small touch that changes the experience as someone moves around it, making the contents feel considered from more than one angle.
Placement & Lifestyle
Donald tavoli bassi slides easily into a living room, lounge, or gallery-like corner where objects deserve a better frame. The smaller square size can sit beside a sofa or reading chair. The longer format works well in front of seating, and the larger low square piece anchors a wider arrangement.
But the real advantage is flexibility. Use one as a standalone, or group several to create a larger surface with rhythm and negative space. The repetition feels intentional, not busy.
Longevity
Laminated glass brings resilience to a material that often feels fragile. The bonded angles and the protective edge at the base are practical choices, and they help the piece hold up to daily living. In a room that changes over time, the restrained geometry and the range of glass colors keep Donald relevant without trying too hard. And that’s exactly the point with Glasitalia.
