About Space

Design

Space is a composable bookcase system by glasitalia, designed by Ennio Arosio. It keeps the look crisp and architectural, with clear planes and clean edges that let books and objects take the lead. The format can be single- or double-faced, so it reads as a quiet wall piece or as a see-through presence in the room.

The modules come in a few proportional options rather than endless variations. Heights sit at about 86.6 inches, while the footprint shifts between narrower and wider plans. And because the structure is glass, the overall silhouette stays light, even when the unit is substantial.

Materials & Build

Every module is built in tempered glass at 10 mm thick, roughly 0.39 inches. The sides and internal glass plates are made in transparent extralight glass, chosen for its clarity and reduced color cast. It’s a very particular kind of transparency, the kind that looks intentional instead of simply “clear.”

The base and top are finished in glossy lacquered glass, adding a controlled shine and a more defined frame at the edges. Space is not available custom made, which keeps the system faithful to its original proportions and finish palette.

Daily Use

Space is straightforward to live with. It’s open, easy to read at a glance, and it doesn’t visually crowd a room. The glass plates create crisp horizontal lines, giving books and collectibles a clean staging without turning the shelf into the main event.

But it also has presence. The glossy lacquered top and base bring a subtle contrast to the extralight transparency, so the piece feels finished from every angle, especially in double-faced setups.

Placement & Lifestyle

The available configurations share the same tall height, with lengths around 12.2, 12.6, 24.0, or 24.4 inches, and depths around 12.2 or 24.8 inches. That range makes it easy to place Space in tighter studies, larger living rooms, or open-plan spaces that need structure without heaviness.

As a single-faced bookcase, it works neatly along a wall. As a double-faced piece, it can sit away from the perimeter and act as a soft divider that still keeps sightlines open. And it pairs naturally with modern interiors where light, reflection, and clean materials matter.

Longevity

Tempered glass is chosen for resilience, and the 0.39-inch thickness gives the modules a confident, stable feel. The extralight transparency is also a long-game choice; it stays visually fresh as tastes and surrounding finishes change.

Space doesn’t rely on decorative trends, just proportion and precision. It’s the kind of bookcase that can move from one home to the next and still look right, because it keeps the room feeling open while staying quietly defined.
