About Ami-Verre
Design
Ami-Verre is a bookcase defined by strict, clean lines and a calm presence. Nothing looks added on, because nothing is. The form reads as one continuous gesture, with shelves and sides resolving into a clear geometry that feels architectural without being cold.
Designed by Jean Nouvel, it also has a flexible intelligence. A single modular element can be rotated and set beside another, and the shelf alignment still holds. And that small detail is what makes the system feel composed even when it expands into larger, more personal arrangements.
Materials & build
The entire piece is made in 0.39-inch thick glass, thermo-welded into a single structure. There are no joints to interrupt the silhouette and no extra structural elements to explain away. It is available in smoked glass or extra-light glass, each giving the same crisp outline with a different attitude in the room.
This approach keeps the visual noise low. Edges stay clean, surfaces read as intentional, and the bookcase looks finished from every angle. Ami-Verre is not offered as custom made, so the design arrives exactly as conceived.
Everyday use
Glass shelving can feel precious, but the experience here is straightforward. Open access makes styling and rearranging easy, and the alignment between modules helps keep books and objects looking orderly. But it doesn’t force symmetry; it simply keeps the composition from drifting.
The transparency can also be a relief in tighter spaces. The bookcase holds a presence without blocking sightlines, so the room still feels open even when it is doing real work.
Placement & lifestyle
The AMI01 configuration measures 47.2 inches long, 13.8 inches deep, and 63.0 inches high. Those proportions suit living rooms, studies, and quieter office settings where storage needs to stay refined. It can sit as a single statement piece, or it can be repeated, rotated, and paired to build a longer wall of shelves with consistent alignment.
In smoked glass, the look is more graphic and defined. In extra-light glass, it reads brighter and almost disappears, letting the objects take the lead.
Longevity
With glasitalia, the point is not decoration; it is clarity that lasts. Thermo-welded construction avoids the visual wear of added connectors, so the form stays as sharp over time as it is on day one. And because the system is modular, it can adapt as a library grows or a space changes, without losing its composure.
