About Telegrafo
Design
Telegrafo is a coat stand drawn with restraint and a sharp eye. Designed by Piero Lissoni, it keeps the gesture simple: a clear, vertical stem rising from a dense iron base. The look is light, almost graphic, but it reads as intentional, not delicate for the sake of it.
The contrast is the point. The stem feels pure and almost weightless, while the base stays raw and straightforward. And that tension gives Telegrafo its presence in a room without asking for attention.
Materials & Build
The stem is made by gluing square bars of transparent glass, each section measuring 0.94 in x 0.94 in. The result is clean and precise, with the edges catching light in a way that changes through the day. It’s a quiet detail, but it’s the kind people notice when they walk past.
The glass is fixed to a base in very thick, raw iron through a joint system. The iron is intentionally rough and unfinished. That texture makes the glass feel even clearer. It’s not a polished, precious pairing. It’s a deliberate mix of materials that keeps the piece feeling modern and honest.
Strength for Everyday Use
Despite the extremely thin sections, the crystal glass is treated to deliver high load resistance. A special tempering process reinforces the glass so it can handle the daily routine of coats and bags without feeling fragile. But the overall impression stays airy, which is part of what makes it so distinctive.
Nothing here is fussy. The engineering is present, just not loud about it. This is the kind of accessory that looks minimal up close, then holds up to real use.
Placement & Lifestyle
In entryways, Telegrafo keeps things tidy without adding visual clutter. The transparent stem helps it blend into tighter spaces, while the iron base anchors it so it doesn’t disappear entirely. It works well beside a console, near a door, or in a dressing area where a coat stand needs to look considered.
Telegrafo by Glas Italia also suits more public rooms. It can sit in a studio, a calm office, or a gallery-like living space and still feel appropriate. And because the form is so controlled, it pairs easily with both soft furnishings and sharper architectural interiors.
Longevity
This is not a piece made to follow trends. The glass is tempered for resilience, and the iron base is meant to wear with dignity. Small marks on the raw finish only deepen the material character over time, rather than ruining it.
Telegrafo maintains its clarity through years of use because the design doesn’t rely on decoration. Just proportion, contrast, and a build that’s quietly confident.
