Merci Bob

Design

Merci Bob is a chair that keeps the gesture simple and lets the material do the talking. Designed by Elena Cutolo for Glas Italia, it’s entirely made in glued glass, with a clean silhouette and a crisp sense of proportion. The look is deliberately quiet. And because it’s transparent, the chair reads more like a presence than a piece of visual weight, giving the room extra air without stepping back from the conversation.

The form feels graphic from every angle, with light moving through the surfaces and edges. But it never tries to be decorative. It stays focused on clarity, line, and the subtle play of reflections that only glass can offer.

Materials & build

The chair is offered in two finishes: transparent extralight glass or transparent coloured glass. The transparent extralight version is made in tempered glass, 15 mm thick, which is about 0.59 inches. The transparent coloured version is made in laminated glass, 8+8 mm thick, about 0.63 inches in total. Both options keep the same essential idea: a single material, carefully assembled, with the joins and surfaces kept as neat as possible.

Merci Bob is not available custom made. What’s offered is specific, edited, and consistent, which suits a piece that relies on precision and exact repeatability.

Comfort

Glass changes the experience of sitting. It feels cool to the touch and visually light, with a firmness that’s honest. This is a chair for people who appreciate a clean seat and a defined posture, especially in dining settings where sitting tends to be active and engaged. Placement & lifestyle

In the extralight finish, the chair nearly disappears in a minimal interior, letting other materials take the lead. In the coloured transparent glass, it brings a soft tint and a little more presence, while still staying refined. Either way, it works best where light can reach it, near windows, under pendant lighting, or around a table that benefits from a cleaner visual outline.

The MEB01 configuration measures about 16.54 inches in length, 17.32 inches in width, and 40.94 inches in height.
