About Palanco
Design
Palanco is a double-faced mirror that hangs from the ceiling and looks finished from every angle. Designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, it reads as a clean vertical plane, then surprises with a visible balancing system that feels intentional, not decorative for its own sake. And because both sides are reflective, it works as more than a mirror. It can act like a light architectural line in the room.
The silhouette stays quiet: a slim body, held in place by cables and pulleys, with counterweights that move in sync. The result is graphic and precise, with a sense of motion built in.
Materials & Build
The counterweights are blown-glass cylinders, offered in red or a neutral finish. They rise and fall to balance the mirror as it moves, bringing a touch of color or restraint depending on the choice. The cables and pulleys are in black aluminum, keeping the hardware crisp and unobtrusive against most ceilings and backdrops.
Glasitalia keeps the composition straightforward: mirror, glass, and aluminum, each doing a clear job. No custom sizing is available, which helps preserve the proportions and the mechanism as designed.
Ease of Adjustment
Palanco is built to be positioned vertically with ease, thanks to its counterweight system. The movement is the point here. It’s a mirror that can be set higher or lower to suit different users, different moments, or a changing layout. But it never looks temporary or improvised, even when it’s adjusted.
Placement & Lifestyle
The double-faced design changes where a mirror can live. Hung near a wall, it still feels open and practical, adding reflection without the flat, fixed look of a traditional wall mirror. Placed more centrally, it becomes a dividing or screening element, offering separation without building a barrier.
Three configurations shape how it fits: PAL01 measures about 19.7 inches long, 2.0 inches wide, and 49.2 inches high; PAL02 is about 24.8 inches long, 2.0 inches wide, and 39.4 inches high; PAL03 is about 49.2 inches long, 2.0 inches wide, and 19.7 inches high. Each keeps the same slim depth, so the mirror stays visually light even when it plays a bigger role in the room.
Longevity
The materials are chosen for daily life. Blown glass holds its character, and black aluminum keeps its clean look with minimal fuss. The mechanism is integral to the design, so Palanco isn’t something to hide or treat delicately; it’s meant to be used, adjusted, and lived with.
For clients who want a mirror that can do more than sit on a wall, Palanco offers a considered solution that still feels calm in the space.
